- Survive the horrors of space using drones and command-line interface
If you're a fan of retro-futurism and sci-fi horror, then Duskers is the game for you. "A better Alien game than any official Alien game," is how Brendy, a reviewer for Rock Paper Shotgun, describes it. The game is a roguelikelike sci-fi horror survival game about salvaging supplies from abandoned spaceships using drones, and issuing commands by typing into a console.
The game takes place in space where you're alone, mostly. You control a small stock of drones, using them to gather fuel, scrap, and parts for your drones and ship. All of this is done through a command-line interface, seeing the world through map views and low-tech sensor readings. Your drones encounter something moving in what should be an empty ship, and now you need to evade and outwit whatever it is to bring home your supplies and drones.
"It is very good, and quite horrible, to only see the horrors through a computer interface," says Brendy.
But what makes Duskers so unique is the way it perfectly matches the retro computing style. "It is a claustrophobic, tense recreation of all the sci-fi horror you love," says Brendy. "It's a game of desperately trying to come up with solutions with almost no resources."
You have until 4 pm on Thursday the 2nd of March to grab Duskers for free from the Epic Games Store. Don't miss out on this exciting sci-fi horror experience.
If you've already played Duskers, check out The Mechanic's chat with its maker about the important decision to use a command-line interface. The game was declared one of our favourite games of 2016 too.
