Innovations Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 with Improved Performance

Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC, targeted at the premium market segment of $400 to $600, which aims to provide flagship-level features at more modest costs. The new chip promises a considerable performance boost, primarily enabled by the switch from Samsung's 4nm process to TSMC's 4nm process. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 retains the same 1+3+4 CPU core configuration as its predecessors, but its top-performing Prime core gets a significant performance improvement by using Arm's Cortex-X2 core.
Key features of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 include:

• 1x Cortex-X2 @ 2.91GHz, 3x Cortex-A710 @ 2.49GHz, 4x Cortex-A510 @ 1.8GHz CPU configuration
• Adreno GPU and Hexagon DSP/NPU
• Triple 18-bit Spectra ISP and 4K HDR video & 64MP burst capture
• 4K60 10-bit H.265 encode/decode with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG
• X62 Integrated (5G NR Sub-6 + mmWave) modem with DL = 4400 Mbps and 5G/4G Dual Active SIM (DSDA)
• TSMC 4nm manufacturing process

Qualcomm has not announced any vanilla Snapdragon 7 part yet, but the launch of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 provides room for such a launch later. According to AnandTech, the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC is expected to ship in the first half of 2023.
