How-TO Windows on Mac? Yes, It's Now Possible

Microsoft Now Officially Supports Windows on Mac computers with Apple Silicon
In exciting news out of Redmond, Microsoft has announced that it will be fully supporting Windows on Arm in virtual machines on Apple hardware. This means that Mac users with the latest Apple Silicon will be able to run Windows 10 natively on their devices for the first time, using Microsoft's virtualization technology. This is a game-changer for anyone who has been frustrated by the limitations of Boot Camp, the previous option for running Windows on a Mac.
If you're ready to take advantage of this new capability, here are the steps you need to follow to install Windows 10 on your Mac:
  1. Check your Secure Boot setting
Before you begin the installation process, it's important to make sure your Secure Boot setting is set to Full Security. This is the default setting, so if you haven't changed it, you should be good to go. If you have changed it to No Security, you'll need to change it back to Full Security before you can install Windows.
  1. Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition
Boot Camp Assistant is the tool you'll use to create a new partition on your Mac's hard drive for Windows. Here's how to do it:
  • Open Boot Camp Assistant, which you can find in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new partition. If you're asked to insert a USB drive, make sure you plug it in before you begin.
  • When you're prompted to set the size of the Windows partition, remember that there are minimum storage-space requirements you need to meet. Choose a partition size that meets your needs.
  1. Format the Windows (BOOTCAMP) partition
Once Boot Camp Assistant has finished, your Mac will restart and the Windows installer will start up. When it asks you where to install Windows, select the BOOTCAMP partition and click Format. In most cases, the installer will automatically select and format the BOOTCAMP partition.
  1. Install Windows
With the BOOTCAMP partition formatted, you're now ready to install Windows. Unplug any external devices that aren't necessary during installation, then click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation process.
  1. Use the Boot Camp installer in Windows
Once Windows is installed, your Mac will automatically start up in Windows and a "Welcome to the Boot Camp installer" window will appear. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Boot Camp and Windows support software (drivers). You'll need to restart your Mac once you're done.
If the Boot Camp installer doesn't open automatically, you can open it manually and use it to complete the installation process. Keep in mind that if you have an external display connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port on your Mac, the display may be blank for up to 2 minutes during installation.
By following these steps, you'll be able to run Windows 10 natively on your Mac, thanks to Microsoft's support for Arm-based virtualization on Apple hardware. So why not give it a try and see how it works for you?
